TOMBALL, TX — BLTI was recently awarded several contracts for the City of Houston's Northeast Water Purification Plant (NEWPP) Expansion Project. The NEWPP is a design-build project that will add 320 million gallons per day (MGD) by 2024 to the existing water plant's capacity. The overall project is estimated at $1.4 billion and began work in early 2018. The design and construction of the plant is are being undertaken by The Houston Waterworks Team (HWT), a joint venture between CDM Smith and Jacobs Engineering Group. The NEWPP expansion is a concentrated effort to meet the demands for clean drinking water for the ever-growing population of Houston and to lessen our dependence on groundwater which is a major cause for flooding in Houston and surrounding areas.

BLTI will be providing Local Control Panels, Adjustable Speed Drive (ASD's) packages, Instrumentation Equipment, Security Systems, and Fire Detection Systems throughout all areas of the facility. BLTI will also participate in the commissioning and startup of the factory SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system.

BLTI has been awarded contracts within these sections of the facility:

  • Intake pump station
  • North Plant
  • Central Plant
  • Site Electrical
  • Administrative / Maintenance Building
  • EQ Basins
  • Dewatering Building
  • High service pumping station
  • Ground Storage Tanks

BLTI has been a provider of the water and wastewater controls to the City of Houston for over forty years. We are honored to be given the opportunity to participate in a water project of this magnitude. Upon its completion, it will be one of the largest surface water treatment plants in the world.
